  • Pedal Instead!
Business Operations was a proud sponsor of the 2008 Pedal Instead program, which offers various events on campus throughout the year to educate and encourage people to ride their bikes. This program prevented over 8,000lbs. of Co2 emissions from coming to campus in 2008! For more information about planned events, visit www.uaea.org.
  • New VanPooling Option Available for OSU Faculty and Staff
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s RideSolutions program is providing faculty and staff with vanpooling services. As part of the service, vanpool commuters will be reimbursed 90 percent of their fare should they need to take a taxi in cases of emergency or unexpected overtime. For details contact Patty Olmsted, MORPC vanpool developer at 233-4132 or visit osuvanpooling.morpc.org.
  • Idling Guidelines for University Vehicles
University employees have the opportunity to help minimize air pollution and maximize fuel efficiency by operating University vehicles and equipment in an environmentally and economically responsible manner. The Idling Guidelines for University Vehicles were approved by President's Cabinet, effective March 1, 2007. These guidelines mirror the City of Columbus' Executive Order on idling. Questions should be directed to Transportation & Parking Services.
  • Hertz Comes to Ohio State!
As another Scarlet, Gray and Green initiative, Transportation & Parking Services has a new partner to provide a low-emission, fuel-efficient car-sharing rental option - Hertz. Ohio State customers can now bike, walk, carpool, vanpool, or take COTA or CABS to campus and have a vehicle ready for their short-term needs. Customers who need a vehicle can jump on-line and select a vehicle to rent. The hourly rates include gas, insurance, and maintenance. Vehicles are parked in reserved spaces throughout the campus area. The customer simply needs to go to the vehicle location at the reservation start time, perform a brief inspection, and then use the vehicle as needed, returning it to the reserved space at the end of their reservation. More information is available from Transportation & Parking.
  • Alternative Fuels
Did you know that the entire CABS transit fleet, as well as all diesel dispensed on site is B20? This conversion came after a multi- year pilot program, started in 2003, produced promising results. Many of the university's vehicles are capable of running on E85 (85% Ethanol and 15% Gasoline). Legislation in the State of Ohio requires State Agencies to procure Flex Fuel Vehicles and B20 powered diesel vehicles as well as set requirements on using the fuels. While the university is exempt from the legislation, we have made a commitment to purchase more alternative fuel vehicles as well as increase our use of alternative fuels.
